Gaze from the shadow - 2019

“One is not born, but rather becomes, a woman”.

by Simone de Beauvoir: The Second Sex, 1948.

First is being a person, and then is becoming a woman. Today, the personal value of women transcends the realm of the family. Gaze from the Shadow entangles the female body with traditional pictorial iconographical conventions and symbols, such as chiaroscuro and the fruit of temptation, to explore the way social roles and positions have defined female identity and morality in the course of centuries.
