From the depths - 2019

One fears of facing endless nothingness. One fears of being alive, of dealing with stacking reality. Probably because of their fear of the unknown, people inquire again and again: “Where do we come from? Where are we going? How can we fulfill the emptiness between our origin and our undetermined destination?”

We do not know where the next step lies; we are blind-sighted wanderers amidst the abyss or the Eden garden.

Being surrounded by the unknown and uncontrollable incites fear, loneliness, anxiety, and confusion. It feels like floating in a soundless outer space that assimilates an ocean of darkness.

By combining landscape and self-portrait photography, my aim is to explore the confusion and anxiety of the future, our coexistence with emotions, and the tantalizing awareness of existence. I employ myself as the main vehicle and container of a rich albeit restrained emotion. Located in environments as diverse as home or nature, my pictures evoke persons subdued in deep thoughts, somewhere between the past and the future, existence and disappearance, life and death.
